Department of Plant Pathology

Introduction

The department of Plant Pathology had its beginning in the year 1964 as an integral part of SKN College of Agriculture, Jobner. At that time the major responsibility of this department was to take undergraduate teaching and post graduate programmes for Master of Science degree in Plant Pathology. The Ph.D. programme by thesis was introduced from the academic session 1966-67. Besides teaching, research and extension also became the main activities. Late Prof. N. Prasad was among the founder Plant Pathologists of the Department & also served as the Dean of the College at Jobner (1960-67), while Prof. P.N. Patel was first Head of The Department of Plant pathology.

The department serves as a core facility for running the teaching programmes for UG, PG and Ph.D. students. Presently, many of the students passed out from this department are serving in other SAU’s, ICAR institutes, Banks, Government of Rajasthan and private sectors etc. The department also serves as a key role in various extension activities for dissemination of resource management strategies to the farming community.

Aims and Objectives

To offer good quality education in the discipline of Plant Pathology in view of the changing global scenario in agriculture and allied subjects. At present, 4 major courses are running in the UG and 11 courses in PG and 4 courses are running in Ph. D programme.

  1. To develop eco-friendly, cost effective and appropriate plant pathological technologies like Integrated Disease Management (IDM) of all agricultural crops.

  2. To transfer the technologies against disease management to the end users effectively and efficiently through informative tools.

Projects/Schemes

a. Completed Projects:

  • Completed RKVY, GOR, Rajasthan project on “Evaluation of indigenous seed treating materials for managing diseases of seed spices”

  • PVT on Soybean frog eye leaf spot and target spot

b. Ongoing Schemes/ Projects

  • AICRP on Arid Fruits Scheme

  • AICRP on Seed Spices

  • DBT Project on Chickpea

  • PVT trials on powdery mildew of Chilli and Cucumber

Facilities or Infrastructure

All the required basic facilities of research and teaching (Lab. =2, media room=1, class room=1) are available in the Department. The various equipment’s available are: Humidity chamber, incubator, compound microscope, digital camera, laptops, desktops, LCD, AC, water bath, centrifuge, laminar flow, pH meter, sprayers, dusters, Cage house, Poly house for Plant Pathological Experiments etc.

Achievements, Recommendations and Findings

  1. 21 days ICAR Sponsored winter school conducted on “ Diseases scenario in climate change conditions -Challenges, Experience, Innovation and Future Prospects” during 02nd March to 22nd March, 2022 at SKNCOA, Jobner.

  2. 8th International conference on “Plant Pathology: Retrospect and Prospects” organized by SKNAU, Jobner during March, 23 to 26, 2022

  3. Organized 07 day Training programme on Mushroom cultivation (19.07.2023 to 26.07.203) on “Entrepreneurship Development through Mushroom Cultivation” under NAHEP, SKNAU, Jobner.

  4. Dr. S. Godika acted as Organizing secretary and organized an Agriculture Education Fair on “31.10.2023” at SKNCOA, Jobner. Approximately 609 students from 11 schools participated in the fair and h’ble VC sir chaired the programme along with PI, NAHEP Dr. M. L. Jakhar and Dean & Faculty chairmen Dr. B. L. Jat. An exhibition by different departments of SKNCOA, Jobner was also displayed outside the sarswati bhawan to demonstrate the activities carried out by college.

  5. One month vocational certificate course under the aegis of NAHEP on “Mass scale production of bio-pesticides started on 23rd Nov. 2023 under the chairmanship of Hon`ble VC sir. 60 READY students participated in the program.
